CP Soccer camp NYC 2020

In Collaboration with Columbia University & New York Red Bulls

Highlights of our soccer training with NY Red Bulls

August 3 - August 7, 2020

CP Soccer NYC hosted our second annual day camp in collaboration with New York Red Bulls and Columbia University’s Program in Occupational Therapy.

New York Red Bulls provided NYC program’s regular coaching for 3 seasons. They are a loyal supporter of the CP Soccer program and has partnered closely with CP Soccer NYC through their training camp and fan experiences. Columbia University’s Program in Occupational Therapy’s Dr. Katherine Dimitropoulou is a CP Soccer advisory board member and incorporated physical and social activities tailored for our CP Soccer players.

Our aim is to run an online camp giving our players the social, emotional and physical benefits of a summer camp. Our players will received a full hour of technical soccer training from Red Bulls including quality training and HIIT to test out their skills. Dr. Dimitropoulou’s warm and cool-down activities complimented the soccer component, and we wrapped up each day with a social activity and games to allow the players to share their stories and provide feedback for future program development. The players also got a chance to put Dr. Dimitropoulou and CP Soccer Coaching Director Ashley Hammond on the hot seat with an interview.

CP Soccer and Columbia University has a long term goal of developing manualized sports programs in the community to support quality of life and productive lifestyles for youths affected by cerebral palsy/stroke/traumatic brain injury and their families.
